Ecosystem Water and Carbon CyclingMuch of our group's research is grounded in the eddy covariance (EC) technique that uses tower-based instrumentation to continuously measure land-atmosphere exchange of water and nutrients at the ecosystem (~kilometer) scale. Dr. Knowles is the current PI of EC measurement stations in California (AmeriFlux US-BgC; blue oak savanna) and Colorado (AmeriFlux US-NR3 and NS-NR4; alpine tundra), and the lab is involved with several other sites. All of these locations are strategically positioned to characterize representative vegetation types that can be linked to multi-site studies, satellite data, and/or models.
